Proven experience
I've recently gotten involved in local politics and have learned the importance of having a genuine representative - someone who is truly the voice of the voters. In November, the constituents of the Illinois state Senate District 33 can reclaim their voice with Nancy Zettler.
Nancy Zettler has repeatedly proven that she's in it for the residents of the 33rd District. She started as a consumer rights attorney and eventually began work as chair of Advance 300, which under her leadership as co-chair, passed two referendums for Community Unit Unit District 300 that lowered class size and helped make D300 one of the more fiscally sound and transparent school districts in the state.
Nancy and Advance 300 also fought to get D300 a seat at the negotiating table in legislation that resulted in additional $3 million per year in recovered property tax dollars. Furthermore, Nancy refuses money from the Democratic bosses and continues to energize her volunteers.
Her opponent, Don DeWitte, has a history of pandering to contractors. While in office in St. Charles, he offered sweetheart deals resulting in a raise in our electric rates, now the highest rates in the Tri-Cities. He offered his votes on developments that his cabinet business supplied materials to while silencing the opposition to such developments by adjourning city council meetings before any citizens could speak. Recently, in an interview with the press, he said he supports cutting state programs across the board "to the bone" suggesting that "it doesn't cut deep until it hurts." These are just a few examples of DeWitte's poor economic and labor choices in another story of businessman turned politician.
I support Nancy Zettler for state Senate because she vows to stand up to the large corporations that have taken advantage of us, the taxpayers, of the 33rd district.
