Letter: Task force is slap in the face to police

I read with great interest in your newspaper the article pertaining to the so-called "Elgin Task Force" on Friday, May 13. I feel that I must say something in opposition to the matter.

First, having 18 members on the task force was downright silly in the first place. Cutting the task force members down to 16 members is still silly. You can't get 16 people to agree to anything.

Secondly, starting up such a task force is a total slap in the face to law enforcement in this community. It is not needed. The Elgin Police Force is not out of control. If it was formed with the idea of getting police officers the salary they deserve, the equipment they need, the laws and allowing them to enforce them, then you have something. Otherwise, it is a waste of time and the taxpayer's money.

The problem here and everywhere in the United States is that leadership of is not leading properly and telling the truth. Leadership is not telling people to just do what they are told to do at the time of any incident. There cannot be two laws for everyone, one that says, "No, you can't do that," and one that says, "Go ahead and do what you want."

Also, realize that the media word things to aggravate the situation so they can sell their product and not the truth.
