Ross looks back on anniversary of Opening Day 2020
Saturday marked the one-year anniversary of Opening Day 2020, when MLB played a 60-game, pandemic-shortened season with the stadiums empty.
That was also David Ross' first game as a major league manager and it ended with Kyle Hendricks throwing a complete-game, 3-0 victory against Milwaukee at Wrigley Field.
Ross reflected on his first year on the job before Saturday's game.
"I don't know. Last year seems a long way away, I definitely would say that," he said. "I've learned every day. I learned about myself, I learned just stay the course, that there's a lot of ups and downs. There's a lot of questions I can't answer for you guys that you want to know on a daily basis."
Ross hasn't quite reached 162 games in his managerial career. Heading into Saturday, his career record was 82-76.
"I think having the consistent attitude is important and communicating with the players and going through adversity has been a huge learning process for me," he added. "How to deal with that as a manager, how to continue to try to put my impact on the team and the players, and just trying to get better and grow. I think I learn in just about every area on a daily basis."
