St. Charles firefigher hurt battling blaze in unoccupied home

A St. Charles firefighter sustained a minor injury battling a fire Friday morning on the 1500 block of Independence Court.

The home was unoccupied at the time and no civilian injuries were reported, according to a news release from the St. Charles Fire Department. No additional details about the injured firefighter were available.

According to the release, firefighters had the fire under control within 10 minutes of arriving on scene. The first responding firefighters noticed the fire in the attic of the attached garage. The fire, which was reported at 10:56 a.m., caused bout $35,000 in damage to the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Geneva, Elburn, Batavia, West Chicago, South Elgin and North Aurora fire departments also assisted in responding to the call.
