Horace Mann awards $10,000 scholarship to Downers Grove North graduate
Horace Mann has awarded Kylie Gaspar of Downers Grove a $10,000 college scholarship as part of the company's scholarship program for children of employees. Kylie is the daughter of Jeff and Nicole Gaspar. Jeff is director of talent acquisition for Horace Mann's Field Operations & Distribution Division.
Kylie graduated from Downers Grove North High School in June with a GPA of 4.4. She is attending University of Wisconsin-Madison, majoring in biomedical engineering. She plans to be a biomedical engineer.
"University of Wisconsin has a beautiful campus situated on a lake, in the heart of the capitol, and is ranked high for biomedical engineering," said Kylie when asked why she chose UW. She chose biomedical engineering as her major because of her desire to help people, love of making innovative new things and passion for math, science and technology.
Kylie participated in National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society and North Star Student Leaders throughout high school. She was a basketball coach for the district's Special Olympics basketball team, lifeguard, math and science tutor and a special needs dance instructor. She also was a four-year varsity swimmer, sectionals and state qualifier. Kylie plans to continue swimming at the club level at Madison.
Kylie's $10,000 scholarship will be paid to University of Wisconsin-Madison over four years.
