Benefit concert to raise money for Love Elgin Day event

A Love Elgin Day fundraising concert will be held from 6 to 7:15 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at Evangelical Covenant Church, 1565 Larkin Ave. in Elgin. It will feature special guest classical opera specialist Franco Martorana, soloist Jeorge Holmes and pianist Murna Hansemann.

Love Elgin Day will be celebrating eight years of impacting thousands with the love of God.

Love Day Elgin on Saturday, June 1, will be held at three sites. Financial help is need for food, materials and services as churches partner up to bring hope and a "hand up" in Elgin.

An offering will be taken. A silent auction will follow the concert with coffee and dessert.

The Love Elgin Day clothing drive is accepting all kinds of gently used, clean clothing and shoes in good condition. Bibles, Christian books and wire hangers are appreciated. Bring all donations to the collection point at the Church of the Brethren warehouse, 1451 Dundee Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays only through May 29.

Free clothing will be provided at Love Elgin Day for all clients who register. They also can get free food, haircuts, massage, medical and legal advice, bike repair, resource information and more.

About 40 churches work together to bring Love Elgin Day to the community and hundreds of volunteers are needed to make it happen.

Sign up for prep work sorting clothing on Thursday and Friday, May 30-31. On June 1, volunteers are needed for registration and sign-in, security, site greeters, bike repair, clothing distribution, prayer room, prayer on the streets, porters, cleanup and tear down.
