Deerfield man charged with soliciting cop he thought was a teen

A Deerfield man has been charged with soliciting an undercover Lake County sheriff's detective who was posing as a teen.

Jeffrey R. Weiss, 59, of the 300 block of South Waukegan Road, was arrested Friday afternoon.

He had gone to an unincorporated residential area near Gurnee believing he was going to meet with a 14-year-old boy with whom he had communicated over social media, authorities said.

In fact, it was a detective with the sheriff's cybercrimes unit posing as a boy.

Weiss was charged with two felony counts of indecent solicitation of a child. If convicted, he faces a maximum of eight years in prison.

Police said Weiss is unemployed and had no prior arrests for this type of crime.

Weiss was being held Saturday at the Lake County jail pending a bond hearing.
