Two detained after standoff at Downers Grove motel

A standoff involving a police SWAT unit at a Downers Grove motel ended peacefully early Monday morning with two people detained by police, authorities said.

Downers Grove police said the standoff began after officers were called at 4 a.m. to the motel at 1113 Butterfield Road in response to a reported battery. They arrived to find an injured person who stated that he had been struck in a room by an individual who was possibly armed with a weapon, police said.

The injured person was taken to a hospital for treatment of a nonlife-threatening injury.

Police said that after the occupants of the motel room did not respond to requests to come out, the DuPage County MERIT Metro SWAT team arrived at approximately 6:50 a.m. One person then left the room and was detained, police said.

SWAT members entered the room and located the second person, who also was detained. Both occupants were taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

Downers Grove police are still investigating. Those with more information should call police at (630) 434-5600.
