Construction, lane closures planned at I-294/Balmoral Avenue interchange in Rosemont

Lane and shoulder closures are expected as construction at the Balmoral Avenue Interchange on the Tri-State Tollway (I-294) in Rosemont is scheduled to begin this week and continue through July, the Illinois tollway announced.

Drivers in the area are urged to slow down and obey posted work zone speed limits. Electronic message and construction signs will be put in place to alert drivers in advance of lane and shoulder closures needed for the planned barrier wall, fence and railing work.

Work to install barrier wall along the ramp carrying Balmoral traffic to southbound I-294 is scheduled to begin Thursday. Shoulder closures will be put in place to complete the work, along with daytime lane closures as needed.

Extended lane closures are scheduled to begin next week and continue through July on Balmoral and the ramp connecting to northbound I-294.

On Balmoral, off-peak lane closures will be scheduled for temporary barrier wall placement to create a work zone, followed by closure of the right lane in both directions. Daily sidewalk closures will be needed during work hours; however, at least one sidewalk remain open to the public at all times.

On the ramp from northbound I-294, the inside left-turn lane to westbound Balmoral Avenue is scheduled to close to prevent drivers from turning into the work zone.
