Gutter campaign is reprehensible

The mailers attacking state representative candidate Rod Drobinski are downright offensive.

These ugly mail pieces put images of distressed women next to unflattering pictures of Rod to misrepresent his positions on abortion and other issues, claiming that Rod will put women's lives at risk.

Besides being lies and misrepresentations, these ugly mailers deceive and try to hide the truth that Rod Drobinski has dedicated his entire career as a prosecutor to protect the vulnerable in Lake County - victims of rape, domestic abuse and gang violence.

The real threat to women in this election is Rod's opponent. He has spent his life dedicated to moving up the political food-chain, supported by his party boss Mike Madigan. His votes keep Madigan and his pals in power, even blocking a state budget needed to protect the most vulnerable.

Both of us have been very active in Lake County for many years. Each of us held a countywide elected office (county clerk for 20 years or coroner for almost 25 years). We know personal and false attacks occur in campaigns. We know what it's like to be attacked simply as strong women who were leaders in our jobs.

However, we've never witnessed a gutter campaign like the one Rod Drobinski's opponent is waging. Lake County and Illinois deserve better. We know sending Rod Drobinski to Springfield will make Illinois a safer place to live for all residents, especially women and children.

We support Rod Drobinski and strongly endorse him for state representative in Illinois District 62.
