Trash pickup to cost less in Sugar Grove
Sugar Grove residents will pay less for trash pickup starting Aug. 1.
The monthly bill will drop to $16.56 from the current $22.15 under a contract approved Tuesday with DC Trash of Cortland.
Waste Management (the current provider) would have charged $17.95 a month. Groot Industries offered to do it for $17.25 a month.
Groot and DC Trash also offered to rebate some of the money they earn on transfer station fees and sale of recycled materials and large item/white goods scrap. The money will go to the village.
The monthly rate will increase 3 percent a year during the five-year contract.
Customers will receive new toters from DC Trash.
The company was founded in 2014. Neighboring Montgomery has also signed a seven-year contract with the firm.
