Des Plaines River Trail upgrades planned

Upgrades are planned to the Des Plaines River Trail between Touhy Avenue in Des Plaines and North Avenue in Melrose Park, officials said.

Preliminary engineering for the improvement project will cost more than $1 million, funded by $721,000 from the federal government and $309,000 from Cook County. Earlier this month, Rosemont's village board approved an intergovernmental agreement with the county, in which the village will receive the funds to pay for the work.

The portion of the trail running through Des Plaines was improved in recent years with resurfacing, brush clearing and more signage.
