Hoffman Estates police recover loaded handgun with extended magazine after traffic stop

A 36-year-old parolee who authorities say was driving with a loaded handgun with a 27-round extended magazine was ordered held in lieu of a $30,000 cash bail Wednesday.

That means Tracy Jamason, who was charged with unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, must come up with the entire $30,000 to be released from custody.

Jamason was driving in the vicinity of Bode and Higgins roads just before noon Tuesday when a Hoffman Estates police officer noticed the car had tinted windows, said Assistant Cook County State's Attorney Ruben Herrera. Police said they also determined Jamason had a suspended license.

After receiving Jamason's consent to search the car, the officer discovered the loaded firearm between the driver's and passenger's seats, Herrera said. A child was sitting in the back seat, Herrera said.

Jamason is on parole for a 2018 conviction for firearm possession for which he was sentenced to four years in prison. He was sentenced to nine years in prison on a 2012 conviction for manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, and Jamason received a three-year sentence for a 2009 conviction for unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and a one-year sentence for a 2008 conviction for possession of a controlled substance. For a 2004 manufacture and delivery of cocaine conviction he was sentenced to boot camp.

Jamason next appears in court Sept. 1.
