Former county magistrate pleads not guilty to meth charge

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. (AP) - A fired suburban Indianapolis magistrate has pleaded not guilty to felony possession of methamphetamine.
Fifty-year-old former Hamilton County Magistrate William Greenaway entered the plea Wednesday in Hamilton Circuit Court. He was charged in March after allegedly buying methamphetamine from a state police informant in a Walmart parking lot in Noblesville.
The Indianapolis Star reports Greenaway is free on bond.
The day after being charged, Greenaway was suspended by the Indiana Supreme Court and fired by the judges of Hamilton County.
Magistrates have the same duties as judges in Indiana but aren't elected. They are chosen by judges to work with them. Greenaway had been a magistrate for eight years.
