Letter: Prison life too cushy; restore death penalty
I agree with John Malec's recent letter about the death penalty. I have always wondered, where is the punishment in a prison sentence for life?
Inmates no longer have to worry making rent, paying a mortgage or paying a utility bill. They get free meals a day, they can watch TV, listen to the radio, read books, newspapers and magazines and play cards and board games with fellow inmates. They can also take classes to get a high school or college diploma. They get free medical and dental care.
All of this paid for by the hardworking taxpayer. Recently, President Biden signed a bill that reduces the cost of a phone/video call to an inmate's family and friends. The only thing an inmate can't do is take an off-site vacation.
Perhaps Biden will remove that restriction, too.
Let's restore the death penalty to punish murderers.
