Edward Jones open house benefits Barb's Precious Rescue

More than 50 community members attended an Open House Sunday, April 3, hosted by Rich Scheflow, a financial adviser at Edward Jones in Palatine.

The event was planned as an opportunity to view Scheflow's new offices, as well as to allow the collection of pet food and pet supplies to benefit Barb's Precious Rescue and Adoption Center, Palatine.

The community responded by donating several hundred pounds of cat food, bags of cat supplies and cash donations.

The event was organized by Scheflow's business partner, Phyllis Charlton, and Barb's Precious Rescue volunteers David Helt and Jim Dopler. The group enjoyed a variety of appetizers, desserts and drinks. Guests enjoyed viewing cat-themed original artwork by Heidi Maslanka, a Palatine High School student, who will be attending the School Of the Art Institute of Chicago in the fall.

Additional original artwork by Barb Weber, founder of Barb's Precious Rescue, was also on display.

Silent auction items and door prizes were donated by Mari Beth Darling, Mary Kay Cosmetics; Dr. Joanne Carlson, Loving Care Animal Hospital; Judy Altman, Lainey's Pawcessories and Pawtique Bakery; Sandy Liebman, Sandeez Jewelry & Embroidery; and Rich Scheflow and Phyllis Charlton, Edward Jones.

Rich Scheflow's Edward Jones office celebrates its 30-year anniversary this year. The new office is at 110 N. Brockway, Suite 340A, Palatine.

According to Barb Weber, "The proceeds from this event will allow us to feed our rescue cats and kittens for a month. It was an excellent event all around, with a variety of food and drink, great guests, pleasant conversation, and, of course, our rescues at the heart of it all."
