Aurora Regional Fire Museum to hold Community Hero Day Oct. 5

The Aurora Regional Fire Museum will host a Community Hero Day and Touch-a-Truck from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. Community Hero Day is a free, community event.

The signature of the event is a Touch-a-Truck with vehicles from 12 different organizations spanning from safety to community services. Families will have an opportunity to take a ride in a restored 1991 Engine from the Chicago Fire Department. The day also includes free admission to the Fire Museum and a variety of fire safety partners providing important safety information.

Hosted at the beginning of Fire Prevention Month, Community Hero Day allows the Museum to educate the entire community about fire safety and safety in our community. "We are excited to provide the community an opportunity to get up close and person with vehicles that serve our community on a daily basis and connect visitors with vital safety information," said executive director Brian Failing.

The Touch-a-Truck will include vehicles from the Aurora Fire Department, Aurora Police Department, City of Aurora, Aurora Emergency Management, Nicor Gas, Ozinga, UPS, Groot, Kane County Sheriff, Durham School Services, Pace Suburban Bus and the Illinois Toll Highway Authority.

Community Hero Day is presented by First Alert and is free to the entire community due to the generous support of First Alert and all of our generous sponsors. "Community events, such as the Community Hero Day, are a great way to educate the public on the importance of home safety," said Tarsila Wey, director of marketing for First Alert. "Providing education about the fire industry and the importance of having and installing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms helps ensure individuals are prepared for an emergency."

The Aurora Regional Fire Museum preserves the history of the Aurora Fire Department and fire service in our region through our collections and exhibits while educating visitors about fire safety and prevention. From humble beginnings to the museum visitors know and love today, the museum welcomes more than 10,000 visitors annually for tours, programs, and events.
