The Chester High School Lady Jacket Golf Team finished its 2020 campaign last week with a brief appearance at the 2020 IHSA Class 1A Regional Tournament and a final match at a Senior Night event vs Trico.
The Chester girls golf team was one of 13 schools assigned to the Gibault Class 1A Regional golf tournament, hosted at the Acorns Links Golf Course in Waterloo Wednesday, Oct. 7.
Competing schools included Chester, Belleville Althoff, Trico, Dupo, Red Bud, Steeleville, Nashville, Columbia, Waterloo Public, Freeburg, Sparta, Okawville, and Gibault Catholic.
To qualify for a team score, schools had to have at least four players complete the 18-hole match. At regionals, players who ran out of balls were disqualified, causing some schools to not have a team score reported in the official IHSA Results.
The top two teams - Columbia and Waterloo Public - advanced to the sectional tournament, as do the top four individuals.
The winning Columbia Lady Eagles were led by senior Malia Kossina, who shot 76. She was followed by Marissa Maldonado (89), Julia Foster (98), Annie Schrader (101), Mae Descher (103), and Sabrina Leingang (108). The Eagles turned in a team score of 364 for the 18-holes.
The runner-up Waterloo Public team was led by sophomore Calli Smith, who shot 88. She was followed by Alexis Guerra (95), Lidia Kaltenbronn (95), Kambrie Cooper (96), Alexis Stumpf (106), and Payton Link (140), for a team score of 374.
Okawville was just one stroke behind Waterloo at 375. Other standings were Trico (4th, 394); Belleville Althoff (5th, 396); Waterloo Gibault (6th, 441); and Sparta (7th, 447). No other team scores were listed on the IHSA website.
According to head coach Chris Toledo, the Lady Jackets of Chester had a team score of 482.
"We didn't have anyone advance to the Salem Sectional, but these girls played well on a very tough course and should be proud," Toledo said.
Camryn Luthy led the Jackets with a round of 108. Senior Lauren Soellner shot 116, while Paige Vasquez shot 127. Aubrie Medford had a score of 131 and Samantha Eggemeyer, the other CHS senior, turned in a score of 135. Jazzi Meredith had to withdraw from the tournament due to illness.
The to four individuals advancing to the sectional tournament were Chloe Kraus, a senior from Okawville (75); Kylie Bunselmeyer, a Trico senior (88); Olivia Quigley, a senior from Marissa (88); and Katie Connolly, a junior from Belleville Althoff (90).
