Concerts, ice cream socials in Lombard
Visitors can revel in the small-town atmosphere of an ice cream social and enjoy live music on three evenings in August at the Lombard Historical Society William J. Mueller Gazebo, behind the Victorian Cottage, 23 West Maple St.
The grounds open and activities begin at 6:30 p.m. and the free concerts start at 7 p.m. Aug. 1, 7 and 14.
On Aug. 1, the village will celebrate its 150th anniversary by commemorating the 1869 Lombard board of trustees meeting at the Maple Street Chapel. An ice cream social will be held after the meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the gazebo, along with a concert by the Stilettos.
On Aug. 7, the Plank Road Folk Music Society plays traditional and contemporary acoustic music, including folk, bluegrass, country and western and even acoustic rock.
On Aug. 14, Mighty Joe Beatty takes the stage with a powerhouse guitar and strong vocals.
Visitors also can play Victorian-era games such as croquet and hoops and graces.
