DuPage County clerk: Deacon Garcia skates to win
Lisle Democrat Paula Deacon Garcia, an incumbent DuPage County Board member, and Republican Patricia Kladis-Schiappa, an attorney from Burr Ridge, are seeking election as DuPage County clerk.
With early voting, mail-in and about 97% of election day ballots counted, Deacon Garcia had 201,192 votes and Patricia Kladis-Schiappa had 121,543 votes.
Election results will not be final until all ballots, including those that arrive via mail after election day, are counted and certified.
The winner will succeed Democrat Jean Kaczmarek, who lost her reelection bid in the spring primary after becoming something of a lightning rod in her legal battles with the county. Both candidates cited the ongoing controversy that has embroiled the county clerk as a primary reason they decided to run for the office.
