Owner of Elmhurst Metra station’s coffee shop charged with selling meth

The owner of a coffee shop located inside Elmhurst’s Metra station is facing charges of selling methamphetamine, authorities said Thursday.

Peter T. Thomas, 35, of the 500 block of East Park Boulevard in Villa Park, is charged with three counts of delivery of methamphetamine and one count of possession with intent to deliver methamphetamine, all felonies. He is also charged with misdemeanor resisting a peace officer and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver.

According to the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office, Thomas sold methamphetamine three times to an undercover police officer.

Prosecutors requested that he be detained while awaiting trial, but Judge Joshua Dieden granted him pretrial release.

According to a prosecutor’s petition to detain Thomas, Elmhurst police were tipped off by Chicago police about suspicions that the business owner was selling methamphetamine.

On Aug. 31, an undercover officer arranged to buy methamphetamine the next day at Thomas’ business, Pilot Pete’s Coffee and Treats, authorities allege. The officer bought about 4.26 grams of methamphetamine, they said.

According to prosecutors’ petition, the methamphetamine was in a brown envelope labeled “Pilot Pete’s Coffee & Treats.”

The officer bought another 3.27 grams on Sept. 30 and 7.33 grams on Wednesday at Thomas’ residence, prosecutors allege.

When Thomas was arrested outside his business Wednesday he had 29.4 grams of methamphetamine in a pants pocket, authorities said.

Thomas’ next court date is Nov. 23.
