Annual Veterans Day ceremony set for Nov. 11 in Lombard Common Park

The village of Lombard invites the community to honor our nation's military veterans at its annual Veterans Day ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 11. The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at the Sunken Garden in Lombard Common Park, Grace and Maple streets.

The ceremony will begin with a welcome from Lombard Village President Anthony Puccio, followed by an invocation from the Rev. David Carlton of Community Presbyterian Church of Lombard.

This year's keynote speaker will be Lombard resident and Vietnam veteran Tom Zilla, who served in the U.S. Army and is currently Commander of Lombard Veterans of Foreign Wars Lilac Post 5815.

The ceremony also will feature performances by Glenbard East High School student soloist Lucia Johnston, who will sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “God Bless America.” Student bugler Max Waldschmidt will perform the calls to assembly and retreat. Bagpiper Tammy Miceli will perform “America the Beautiful,” and members of American Legion Post 391 and VFW Lilac Post 5815 will participate in the ceremony.

Members of the Lombard Junior Women's Club will distribute programs and American flags, courtesy of VFW Lilac Post 5815. Members of the VFW Auxiliary will also distribute poppies in recognition of veterans and their service.

In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the village hall, 255 E. Wilson Ave. The ceremony is hosted by the village of Lombard in partnership with VFW Lilac Post 5815 and American Legion Post 391.
