Geneva pumpkin smash set for Nov. 7

You can get rid of your jack-o’-lanterns at a free pumpkin smash from 9 a.m. to noon on Nov. 7 at the Community Gardens at Prairie Green Preserve, Peck and Bricher roads, in Geneva.

The event aims to reduce the number of pumpkins that end up in landfills. Participants should remove all decorations, including paint, candles, googly eyes and stickers.

After the pumpkin smash, the park district will till the remains into the garden plots to enrich the soil.
