Arlington Heights Senior Center to bring River City to life in ‘The Music Man Sr.’
Get ready for music, laughter and a little mischief when seniors from the Arlington Heights Park District take the stage for “The Music Man Sr.,” a shorter, more informal production of the beloved musical “The Music Man.”
Performances take place at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Arlington Heights Senior Center, 1801 Central Road, Arlington Heights. Set in the fictional town of River City, “The Music Man” follows the charming and fast-talking con man Harold Hill as he arrives in town promising to organize a boys' marching band. With memorable music, colorful characters and plenty of comedy, the classic story has entertained audiences for generations.
“The Music Man Sr.” was born out of the Arlington Heights Park District’s Innovation Committee, which fosters interdepartmental collaboration and develops new programs to better serve the community. The idea brought together the Senior Center and Cultural Arts supervisors to create a unique performance opportunity for participants ages 50 and older. The production combines music, comedy and community while showcasing the creativity and enthusiasm of local seniors.
“This production is a wonderful opportunity for our participants to share their talents, have fun and create something special together,” Senior Center Supervisor Abby Vombrack said. “There’s so much laughter, energy and heart in this group, and we can’t wait for the community to see what they’ve put together.”
