We need freedom from doublespeak
It looks like “freedom” is the new code word used by Trump supporters. “Liberty” is also.
What do they mean by freedom? Freedom to ban books? Maybe freedom to outlaw free speech and freedom to protest or criticize government officials? Freedom from punishment for crimes like trying to overthrow the government by violence or sexually harassing children?
Or are they talking about freedom from any form of regulation or oversight on behalf of the well-being of ordinary citizens? This extends to eliminating food and drug safety standards and environmental regulation. Apparently they want a dog-eat-dog world where people are harmed and cheated by corporate and governmental powers, with no recourse.
Government is supposed to protect its citizens and provide for the common good.
This is doublespeak. The people who spout it must be so obsessed with their self-righteousness and belief in myths that they stop thinking and just react.
We need more real freedom in these terrible times for our country. Freedom to hold public officials accountable and exercise all of our constitutional rights.
