Police: Five people found dead inside Mundelein home

Five people were found shot to death in a Mundelein home late Sunday, authorities said.

The bodies were found about 11:45 p.m. in a house on the 200 block of Wellington Avenue by officers responding to a request for a well-being check, according to Mundelein police. A relative of one of the people in the house had called 911, Deputy Police Chief Rick Wilfenger said in an email.

Officers entered the home through an unlocked door and found three men and two women dead inside, in several rooms, Wilfenger said. All had been shot.

Two handguns were found inside the home, police said.

The people were members of the same family or in a domestic relationship, police said, but not all of them lived in the house. Authorities do not believe the public is in danger.

“This was an isolated incident with no threat to the public,” Police Chief Tom Poynor said in an email.

Police hadn’t received any reports of gunshots, Wilfenger said. The department had no history of emergency calls at the house, he said, nor was there a history of police interactions with the deceased.

Mundelein police, the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force and the Lake County coroner’s office are investigating.
