Q&A

What is your view on the role of tariffs in the American economy? Do you support the president’s policies on setting tariffs on goods from other countries?

It seems they have a role with the administration, but I believe Congress should have the final say as it’s the responsibility of Congress.

What should Congress do to protect Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid? Will Congress act in time to prevent significant cuts in Social Security benefits?

Social security are one of the drivers in the budget. 78% of the budget is considered drivers. Discretionary spending makes up the other 22%. We need to protect social security but it’s going to require some bi-partisan reform. Social security should be for the elderly and retired not a paycheck to the unemployed.

How do you rate the state of health care in America? In particular, what are your views on the Affordable Care Act and the concept of Medicare for All?

Healthcare should always be improving. It should be affordable and accessible. I am not for Medicare for all, but I believe healthcare should be available to all.

How would you describe the working relationships in the U.S. House today? What can be done to promote more effective government in Congress, and what will you do personally to work toward this goal?

The House didn’t do the best job this last session. Part of it is obstruction from the opposition part of it is disfunction. I would strive to work with both sides to get big things done that require bi-partisanship. Executive orders may have their purpose but it’s not the best way to govern.

Do you believe the nation's election system and those of the individual states are secure and fair? If not, what must be done to improve them?

It could always improve. I was for the Save America Act. I believe everyone should provide photo ID when voting. I also believe maybe we ought to do like most of Europe snd have one day voting. We should know the results of the election within hours after the polls close.

If elected, what will you do to help make Congress more effective?

I will strive to cross the isle and work with the opposing party on big things that require bi-partisan representation. I enjoy trying to find common ground with the opposing. It’s possible if you try.
