Palatine woman back in contact with family, no longer deemed missing
Palatine police said Thursday a 24-year-old woman reported missing last month has been found and is in contact with her family.
Alyssa M. Smith’s mother told detectives Wednesday she spoke with her daughter by telephone, according to police.
Based on that and other information, Smith no longer is considered a missing person, police said.
“The Palatine Police Department would like to thank the public, the Chicago Police Department, the Cook County Sheriff's Office, and our law enforcement partners for their assistance throughout this investigation,” police said in a statement.
Police also expressed appreciation for the numerous tips provided by community members.
Smith had been reported missing by her aunt on Sept. 30.
During her disappearance, detectives learned Chicago police officers had contact with Smith and her boyfriend on Sept. 28 on Chicago’s West Side. Smith also was positively identified in a video recorded on Sept. 29, also on the West Side.
Smith’s boyfriend reported he last saw her during the early morning hours of Sept. 30, in the 400 block of South Kostner Avenue in Chicago.
Out of respect for Smith's privacy, police said, no additional details regarding her personal circumstances will be released.
