Covenant Living’s holiday marketplace returns as Merry Market Nov. 7

Covenant Living of Northbrook recently announced the return of its beloved annual holiday marketplace formerly known as Holly Fair, now reimagined and rebranded as the Merry Market.

The resident-run event will take place on Friday, Nov. 7, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the senior residential facility, 2625 Techny Road. It is open to the public.

The Merry Market continues a long-standing tradition of bringing residents, staff, and the greater community together for a day of holiday shopping and charitable giving. Visitors will discover a wide selection of unique items for sale, including holiday decorations, handcrafted woodcrafts, jewelry, resident artwork, collectibles, antiques, and treasures.

Baked goods, specialty food items, and lunch offerings will also be available in the community’s Common Grounds Cafe.

In addition to shopping, attendees can participate in two special raffles. Every guest will have the opportunity to enter a free raffle, and visitors may also purchase tickets for a quilt raffle fundraiser benefiting the event’s educational grant program.

The featured raffle prize is “Roots to Wings,” a one-of-a-kind oversized quilt created and donated by award-winning quilter Karen Grage of Deerfield, Illinois. Designed as a meaningful gift for a student leaving home to attend college, the quilt reflects the spirit of growth, learning and new beginnings that aligns with the Merry Market’s mission.

“The new Merry Market name reflects the joyful spirit of this event while honoring the tradition that residents and guests have enjoyed for many years,” said Marge Andersen, Merry Market chair. “This event showcases the creativity and generosity of our residents and provides a wonderful opportunity for neighbors and friends to start their holiday shopping while supporting meaningful causes.”

Dozens of Covenant Living residents volunteer throughout the year to help make the event possible, contributing handcrafted items and assisting with planning and operations.

Proceeds from the Merry Market help provide educational grants for graduating high school students employed in dining services at Covenant Living of Northbrook. Additional funding comes from resident donations and support from the Covenant Living administration. A portion of event proceeds also benefits local organizations, including the Northbrook police and fire departments, Northbrook Public Library, and the Northfield Township Food Pantry.

“Giving back to the community is an important part of who we are,” Andersen added. “The Merry Market allows residents to share their talents while supporting students and organizations that make a difference in our community.”

The public is invited to attend the Merry Market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the community’s Town Center. For information, go to MerryMarket.org.
