Consider EVs or plug-in hybrids
Tired of high gas prices? Here’s an idea you might want to consider — try an electric car or a plug-in hybrid.
Concerned about cost? They might cost a bit more upfront, but you’ll get it all back and more, very quickly.
Concerned about range? The distance electric vehicles (EVs) can go before needing to be recharged has increased significantly over the past several years. Many models now can go 300 miles between charges, quite a few can go 350 miles and some even 400. You can charge your EV overnight in your garage, and public charging stations are becoming more and more common. You can recharge your EV in 10 minutes at a fast-charging station.
And just think: no oil changes. Fewer moving parts that might need expensive repairs. Fewer brake jobs because EVs use regenerative braking, which does much of the deceleration.
Maybe a plug-in hybrid would work better for you. They have a smaller battery than a full EV and can typically go 20 or 30 miles on a charge — perfect for Saturday errands and trips to the grocery store. The gas engine kicks in automatically when the battery runs low. So electric for around town and gasoline for longer trips. And they can recharge in your garage in just a few hours.
Full EV or plug-in hybrid? Either way, you’ll be laughing every time you drive by a gas station sign saying, “Regular, $4.69.”
