Bar associations release judicial candidate recommendations ahead of Nov. 3 election
The Illinois State Bar Association and the Chicago Bar Association have released their recommendations for judicial candidates running in the Nov. 3 election. The ISBA and the CBA are the state's two largest bar associations.
Cook County
In Cook County, the Illinois State Bar Association and Chicago Bar Association found Judith C. Rice qualified for the First District Appellate Court.
In countywide races for the Circuit Court of Cook County, the CBA found D’Anthony “Tony” Thedford highly qualified and the ISBA found him qualified. Both bar associations gave “qualified” ratings to Steven Q. McKenzie, Luz Maria Toledo, Ashonta C. Rice and Ava George Stewart.
In the 11th Subcircuit, which includes parts of Elk Grove, Maine, Norwood Park, Leyden, Proviso and Oak Park townships along with some Chicago neighborhoods, both organizations found Jarrett Knox and Kim Przekota qualified.
In the 13th Subcircuit, which includes parts of Schaumburg, Palatine, Barrington and Hanover townships, the CBA found Robert “Bob” Groebner, Brittany Michelle Pedersen, William F. Kelley and Dan Naranjo qualified. The ISBA found Groebner, Kelley and Naranjo qualified and Pedersen not qualified.
DuPage County
In DuPage County, for the Third District Appellate Court, the ISBA recommended Jason A. Helland and Margaret “Peggy” O’Connell.
In the 4th Subcircuit of DuPage County’s 18th Circuit, Michael Fleming and Christina Kye were recommended. In the county’s 5th Subcircuit, Terra Costa Howard was recommended. For retention countywide, the ISBA recommended Richard D. Felice, Margaret “Peggy” O’Connell, Monique O’Toole and Ann Celine Walsh.
Kane County
The ISBA website indicates no judicial vacancies in Kane County’s 16th Circuit. The ISBA recommends Elizabeth Flood, Joseph M. Grady, Donald (D.J.) Tegeler and Robert Villa be retained.
Lake County
No judicial vacancies exist in Lake County’s 19th Circuit according to the ISBA website. The website shows judicial candidates James K. Booras and Marnie M. Slavin received an insufficient number of responses. The designation is neutral and indicates a lack of data from peers who know the candidate's work well enough to vote on their qualifications.
McHenry County
The ISBA website lists no judicial vacancies in McHenry County’s 22nd Circuit courts. The bar association recommends Michael W. Feetterer, Mark R. Gerhardt, David R. Gervais and Justin M. Hansen be retained.
