Be informed and head to the polls
In the 2022 midterms, only 54% of eligible voters in the Midwest voted. The League of Women Voters of the Palatine, Barrington and Schaumburg Areas (LWVPA), which has a mission of defending democracy and empowering voters, would like to see a much higher percentage this November.
To make it easier to vote, we are sharing resources with Daily Herald readers. VOTE411.org is a nonpartisan, digital voter guide serving millions of voters nationwide. It is a one-stop shop for everything needed to develop a voting plan. At VOTE411.org, voters can find their polling places; see early voting dates, hours and locations; and, most importantly, read candidates’ own words about their positions on issues. If you missed a candidate forum, you can find links to those also.
We are encouraging voters to make a plan early in the election cycle. Check your registration status at VOTE411.org or the State Board of Election site. Early voting begins Oct. 7; in Cook County, there are expanded sites starting Oct. 19. Check ova.elections.il.gov/earlyvotinglocations.aspx for up-to-date information.
If you receive a vote-by-mail ballot (VBM), return it as early as practical. Use Illinois’ secure VBM drop boxes when possible; they are located at early voting sites.
Have a backup plan. If you did not register before Nov. 3, you can still register and vote on Election Day at your polling place. Check with the Illinois State Board of Elections for registration requirements.
By using resources like this, you can head to the polls prepared and informed. You have the ability to choose the leaders who express your opinions and values. Get out and vote early, and bring someone with you to increase voter participation.
