Palatine police: Pair attacked, spat on officers responding to disturbance

A pair of Palatine residents face felony charges after police say they attacked officers responding to reports of a disturbance at an apartment complex Sunday.

Jovani Perez-Antonio, 35, is charged with four counts of aggravated battery to a police officer, three counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer and single counts of resisting arrest and violating an order of protection, police said Thursday.

Martha Arce Martinez, 29, is charged with four counts of aggravated battery to a police officer and single counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer and resisting arrest, police said.

According to police, the confrontation occurred about 3:10 p.m. Sunday when officers were called to the 400 block of East Osage Lane.

During the investigation, Perez-Antonio punched officers, spit in an officer's face, and kicked a police sergeant in the face, authorities said.

Arce Martinez threw a beer can at an officer, striking him in the back, then kicked officers and spit in an officer's face as they detained her, police said.

Officers and both defendants suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Perez-Antonio appeared in court for a detention hearing Tuesday and was released pending a scheduled court appearance Oct. 21.

Arce Martinez also was released and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 2.
