Lake Zurich woman facing ‘straw purchase’ weapons charges

A Lake Zurich woman faces weapons charges following an investigation into the illegal sale of firearms to people not legally allowed to possess them, authorities said.

Tanqueray McBride, 25, is charged with unlawful purchase of a firearm with intent to deliver, unlawful delivery of a firearm to a felon and perjury, all felonies, Illinois State Police said in a news release Wednesday.

According to police, a firearm was recovered from a vehicle after a traffic stop on I-290 in August 2025, and the driver was arrested on charges of felony aggravated possession of a firearm.

The firearm was sent for testing, and an investigation continued.

This past March, the firearm from that traffic stop was found to have been originally purchased by McBride, the release said.

According to Illinois State Police, special agents found that another firearm purchased by McBride had been recovered during a separate arrest in November 2025 in Lake County.

McBride legally purchased the firearms, claiming them as personal purchases but then sold them to people who weren't legally allowed to possess them, also known as a straw purchase, according to the release.

On Sept. 16, the Kane County state's attorney's office approved charges against McBride. An arrest warrant was issued, and she turned herself in to the Kane County Sheriff’s office on Sept. 24, police said. She was released after a pretrial detention hearing.

State police said no further information was available.
