Lost opportunity for voters
I was disappointed that the nonpartisan League of Women Voters candidate forum featuring state Sen. Darby Hills and her challenger, state Rep. Nabeela Syed, was canceled after Hills withdrew at the last minute citing a scheduling conflict. She had firmly committed to the event in the summer. The league designed the forum to give voters an equal opportunity to hear from both candidates.
Why should we lose the opportunity to hear the candidates speak for themselves?
Hills was appointed to the Senate by GOP bosses rather than elected to the seat. This was an opportunity for her to face voters directly, answer tough questions and make her case.
Instead, questions will be unanswered, the conversation will be muted and voters will be shortchanged.
Candidates asking for our votes should be willing to face the voters. No speeches, no spin, no substitutes — just straight answers.
If you want our votes, show up, speak up and stand up for your record. Voters deserve nothing less.
