Try out Oak Brook’s free disc golf course with equipment library for beginners

Tucked into the landscape of Oak Brook Park District’s 105-acre Central Park is a recreational experience that can be easy to overlook.

Central Park Disc Golf is a free nine-hole course that winds through gently rolling terrain, mature trees, and natural features within the park. While the course is part of a larger community park filled with athletic fields, trails, courts and other amenities, its wooded layout creates a unique experience.

For players who want to try disc golf without investing in equipment, the Oak Brook Park District offers a way to make the sport accessible with a free Disc Golf Library, located inside the lobby at the Family Recreation Center.

Players can take a disc to use on the course and return it when they are finished. Players can also donate discs to help keep the library stocked and available to the community.

“With the changing leaves and cooler temperatures, fall can be an ideal time to experience the course,” said Amanda Woods, superintendent of marketing and communications. “The wooded setting takes on a different character as the seasons change, giving returning players a new backdrop for the same nine holes.”

The course is open daily from dawn to dusk with no fee or reservations required. Players are encouraged to follow posted course rules, be courteous to other park users, and allow faster groups to play through.

It is not simply a course tucked into a park. It is a different way to experience one of Oak Brook Park District’s largest outdoor spaces, one throw at a time.
