The prospect of ‘state-run television’

Last Friday morning President Donald Trump announced a ban on the “free press” (his words) from entering the White House. He specifically mentioned CNN, MSNOW, and Politico as his targets.

It just so happens that that night I watched the movie 6 Underground starring Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds' character was the leader of a small band of self-described mercenaries whose mission was to overthrow the dictator of the fictional country of Turgistan. As they began a takeover of the country's TV broadcast station, Reynolds said to the group, “Three little words have helped dictators rule: state‑run television.”

That line struck me as describing exactly what Donald Trump is trying to do with his ban on CNN, MSNOW, and Politico. These are credible news organizations that speak truth to power about the corruption of the Trump administration, and he can't stand it.

Trump wants us to hear only the lies spewed forth by the sycophants on Fox News and other far-right media outlets. Don't believe this garbage. Think for yourself, and do the right thing in November before it's too late.
