Carpentersville man ID’d as driver killed when hit by train in Barrington

Lake County authorities have identified a 77-year-old Carpentersville man as the driver killed Friday when his vehicle was struck by a Metra train in Barrington.

Robert Scheurich died as a result of injuries suffered in the collision, the Lake County Coroner’s Office reported Monday.

Authorities said Scheurich’s car was stopped on the railroad tracks at Route 14 and Hart Road after being involved in a three-vehicle crash at about 11:45 a.m. Friday.

The car was unable to be moved before it was struck by an outbound Union Pacific Northwest Line Metra train, officials said.

Scheurich was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with critical injuries and pronounced dead in the intensive care unit Friday night, according to the coroner’s office.

Investigations into both crashes are ongoing.
