Driver who collided with Metra train in Barrington dies of his injuries

A man whose car collided with a Metra train Friday in Barrington has died, authorities said Saturday.

Metra police are still investigating the crash involving an outbound Union Pacific Northwest Line train, which occurred before noon at a crossing near Northwest Highway and Hart Road.

Right before the train arrived, the man’s car was involved in a vehicle collision near the crossing, officials said.

The driver, believed to be 49, was rushed to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with critical injuries and died Friday.

It appears his car was on the tracks when it was struck. Additional details were not available as of Saturday.

Metra passengers and the train crew were uninjured.

The UP Northwest line experienced extensive delays, but Metra trains were back on the move at 3:20 p.m., officials said.
