Aurora Oktoberfest celebration rescheduled to Oct. 10

Officials said an Aurora Oktoberfest event hosted by the Auroraland German Heritage Society and the Kiwanis Club of Aurora has been rescheduled from Saturday to Oct. 10 because of predicted storms.

Lucas Albright, president of the Kiwanis Club of Aurora, said the Oktoberfest event on Oct. 10 will still be held at the Phillips Park Main Pavilion on Ray Moses Drive in Aurora.

Albright said the rescheduled event will still include live bands, activities for children, face painting, a dirndl and lederhosen costume contest, German beer and food such as bratwurst from the Wurst Kitchen. He said a planning committee has been planning the event for a year.

Proceeds from the rescheduled event will go to the Kiwanis Club of Aurora, the Auroraland German Heritage Society and the Phillips Park Foundation.

“It’s good to continue to preserve Phillips Park,” he said. “We will also be able to continue to do good in the community and help the children of Aurora, which is what the Kiwanis Club does. It’s a win-win.”

Albright said this is the second year for the Aurora Oktoberfest event, and the first year the Kiwanis Club of Aurora has helped plan the celebration. He said the Kiwanis Club stepped in because the Auroraland German Heritage Society needed more volunteers for the event.
