Buffalo Grove Park tagged with Nazi symbol
A basketball court at Reiner Park was tagged with a swastika by a spinning e-bike, Buffalo Grove Park District officials said.
Park District Superintendent of Communications and Marketing Mike Terson said the district received a call from a resident on Monday.
Buffalo Grove police said they received a report about 1:30 p.m. Monday that the symbol had been drawn on the basketball court at the park at 1101 Green Knolls Drive.
There are no cameras in this location, and there was no suspect information provided, police said.
Terson said a spinning e-bike is likely the source of the vandalism. He said it fits into a pattern of e-bike-related vandalism not only at Reiner Park, but also at Rick Drazner Park, Risinger Park and Cherbourg Park.
“Aside from the extremely offensive intentions with this most recent act of vandalism at Reiner Park, in general we have seen a significant increase in vandalism using e-bikes,” Terson said.
Terson said the extent of the damage is to be determined.
“The damage being caused by spinning the tires on playground and sport courts burns through the surface and is very difficult and expensive to repair,” he said.
Terson said the district hopes someone seeing something illegal take place in the parks will call 911 and report it.
If the tip leads to the arrest and conviction of a perpetrator or a conspirator, that person will receive a cash reward of up to $1,000, he said.
