The worrisome brutality of football

A bigger question than whether or not da Bears will be moving to Indiana or staying here is why are we still celebrating football at all when at least 25% of NFL players end up with life threatening medical conditions.

Although I thoroughly enjoy watching my grandkids play tackle football; I worry that the very next play could send any one of them to the emergency room.

It is quite simply a brutal sport that should be stopped unless improved safety conditions guarantee the risk factor is significantly reduced for its eager combatants, especially the younger ones.

As popular as gladiators were in ancient time, the Romans had the good sense to eventually stop all the bloodshed. Maybe we can take their cue and initiate a moratorium on the sport of football before one of our offspring is permanently impaired.
