Football roundup: Hoffman Estates, Palatine, Schaumburg, Vernon Hills collect wins

Riley Lennert came up big for Hoffman Estates again.

The junior scored three times Thursday and rushed for 213 yards on 32 carries in the Hawks’ 35-15 win over Elk Grove.

“Lennert is an old-school work horse,” Hoffman Estates coach Tim Heyse said. “He is also our Mike ‘backer. In the past two weeks he has had 53 carries and 23 tackles. And the kid is not satisfied. He wants perfection and works for perfection on a daily basis.”

Shion Dailey fired a 20-yard touchdown pass to Kasper Janiki and Andre Morris had a 37-yard interception return for the Hawks (2-2).

Elk Grove (2-2) got a pair of touchdown passes from Luke Maher (16-of-24 passing, 177 yards) of three yards to Griffin Ewen and 48 yards to Ryan Gomez.

Palatine 28, Rolling Meadows 21: Palatine’s Josiah Carrillo’s 13-yard touchdown run with 1:55 to play was the difference. Jayden Evans also had a huge night for Palatine (2-2). Evans, who had 13 carries for 70 yards, had touchdown runs of five and eight yards. He also caught a 66-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Martino (12-of-18 passing, 235 yards). Gavin Prickett fired a pair of touchdown passes for Rolling Meadows (1-3). He had a 31-yard touchdown throw to JT Cummings and a 42-yard screen pass to Luke Harvey, who also had a two-yard touchdown run.

Schaumburg 30, Wheeling 7: Mason Heydecker caught a pair of touchdown catches and ran for another as Schaumburg (1-3) won its first game of the season. Dylan Ramirez was 11-of-15 passing for 238 yards and two touchdowns while Vinny Cretsinger ran for 130 yards on 13 carries. Anthony Alvarado had a 25-yard touchdown run for Wheeling (0-4).

Vernon Hills 12, Niles West 7: Vernon Hills head coach Colton Jewell picked up his first victory. Augie Leahy and Jaelon Landers each scored a touchdown, while Colin McMurray ran for 104 yards and threw for another 158 yards. Charlie Schenk and Carson Alper lead the defense along with Liam Wozniak, who had two interceptions. “Our guys did their job and fought to the very end,” Jewell said. “It was a great team win for the Cougars.”

Highland Park 49, Maine East 7: Maine East (0-4) fell behind early and fell to the Giants (2-2). Sophomore Ryan Smith finished 5-of-9 passing for 64 yards and threw a touchdown pass to Peter Khamo.

Deerfield 38, Maine West 26: Maine West (0-4) fell behind 32-0. But the Warriors made it interesting as Angelo De La Torre rushed for a pair of touchdowns, Davion Tate had a 94-yard catch and run on a pass from Ryan Cooper. Tate also had a 48-yard touchdown run with 7:22 left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 32-26. But Maine West couldn’t get any closer.

Warren 34, Mundelein 6: Jonathan Randolph and Warren broke it open in the final five minutes with a pair of touchdowns to give the Blue Devils (1-3) the victory. Randolph had scoring runs of two and 74 yards, and Xavier Vinson threw an 84-yard touchdown pass to Michael Busch. Tyler Johnson (8-of-19, 87 yards) threw a touchdown pass to Jackson Rejczyk (6 receptions, 72 yards). Dylan Leipold had 12 tackles, and Maddox Solum and Kolton Sydanmaa each had 10 tackles for Mundelein (3-1).

Libertyville 40, Lake Forest 26: Brock Williams opened the game with a 95-yard kickoff return for Libertyville (2-2, 2-0) and Connor Luxon’s 32-yard interception return for a touchdown put the game away. Whitaker Burrow tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Charles Paden for the Wildcats.

Lake Zurich 51, Waukegan 0: Lake Zurich (2-2, 2-0) won its second in a row and rolled over the Bulldogs (0-4, 0-2).

Zion-Benton 42, Stevenson 23: Zion-Benton (4-0) beat Stevenson for the first time since 1988. Stevenson led 14-6 after one quarter. Zion-Benton pulled away 26-23 at the half before the Zee-Bees tallied in each of the final quarters to pull away.

Grant 32, Lakes 29: Grant outlasted Lakes in the Northern Lake County as the Bulldogs piled up 227 rushing yards. Grant (2-2, 1-1) got a big night from Connor Evans, who threw for a touchdown and ran for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Doltyn Longtin ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns, while Jackson Fudala had a touchdown catch. Ethan Gialo came up huge for Lakes (1-3, 0-2). He was 14-of-21 passing for 168 yards and two touchdowns and also rushed for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Nathan Velez added 91 rushing yards for the Eagles.

Grayslake North 29, Round Lake 27: Becket Duvel (15 carries, 154 yards) had touchdown runs of 15 and 54 yards in the second half as Grayslake North (4-0, 2-0) held on for the victory. Jaylen Newkirk, who earlier rushed for a four-yard touchdown, threw a 26-yard screen pass to Luc Woyat for a touchdown for the Knights. Jeremiah Kelly rushed for 134 yards on 14 carries for Grayslake North. Evan West was 11-of-19 passing for 208 yards and two touchdowns for Round Lake (2-2, 0-2). Jaquan Jameson and Jordan Moore each caught touchdown passes while Devin Powell had 5 catches for 131 yards. Powell also had a touchdown run, as did Landris Bellamy.

Wauconda 49, North Chicago 8: Cooper Karaszewski (7-of-10 passing, 149 yards) connected with Luke Sickmeir for a pair of touchdowns as the Bulldogs (4-0, 2-0) rolled. Brody Rudolph had two rushing touchdowns and eight tackles. Brian Hart, Brody McKenna and Ryan Landmeir each had a rushing touchdown. With his six catches and 136 receiving yards, Sickmeir broke the school record for receiving yards. Finn Loomis (four tackles, sack, two tackles for loss) and Colton Zak (four tackles, sack and a fumble recovery) helped key the defense.

York 55, Leyden 0: In a West Suburban crossover, York (3-1) had everything go its way as the Dukes handled Leyden (1-3).

Providence 31, Carmel 7: Isaac Patton’s one-yard touchdown run in the first quarter cut the deficit to 9-7. But that’s as close as Carmel (2-2, 0-1) got to Providence (4-0, 1-0). Carmel had the ball inside Providence 20 on three occasions. The Corsairs fumbled twice at the 10 and turned it over another time on downs.

Leo 40, St. Viator 8: In their CCL Red Division opener, Leo (3-1, 1-0) roared to a 26-0 halftime lead thanks to a pick-six and a fumble recovery. St. Viator (0-4, 0-1) got a late touchdown on a 15-yard pass from George Lillwitz to Bryson Jackson.
