Mundelein officials to debate roadside camera use Oct. 26

Mundelein officials will meet Oct. 26 to discuss the police department’s continued use of cameras that capture images of passing cars.

The committee of the whole meeting is set for 6 p.m. at village hall, 300 Plaza Circle. It’ll be open to the public.

Concerns about privacy erosion and data abuses elsewhere in the suburbs prompted Trustee Tony Ugaste to raise the issue during a board meeting last month.

After stressing he doesn’t believe Mundelein police are misusing the Flock Safety surveillance system that’s been in place since 2024, Ugaste noted officers in communities that have access to Mundelein’s data have been accused of such violations.

Ugaste also expressed worry about what Atlanta-based Flock does with the data from the cameras Mundelein leases.
