Geneva to hold 9/11 memorial ceremony on 25th anniversary

Geneva residents and community stakeholders are invited to join city staff for a memorial observance to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Led by the Geneva fire and police departments, the ceremony will be held at 9:15 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, outside city hall, 22 S. First St.

Fire Chief Matt Lohse and Police Chief Eric Passarelli will provide remarks honoring the nearly 3,000 lives lost due to the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, and the heroic response by first responders in New York, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. The observance also features a fire service bell ceremony and a moment of silence for the community to reflect on the tragedy.

Flags at city hall will fly at half-staff in remembrance of the 9/11 victims.

The ceremony is open to the public and is expected to last about 15 minutes, rain or shine.

A limited amount of parking is available outside city hall along James Street. Additional public parking can be found at the Police Department, 20 Police Plaza.
