Bartlett assistant village administrator steps down after employee complaint
Bartlett’s assistant village administrator resigned earlier this summer as part of a voluntary separation agreement following an employee complaint against him.
Village trustees voted last month to approve the agreement with Scott Skrycki, who had worked as the assistant village administrator for about nine years.
As part of the deal, Skrycki received a one-time payment of $58,982 — the equivalent of four months’ salary — and the village agreed to continue paying its share of his employee medical and dental insurance through June 30, 2027.
On Tuesday, Skrycki said he appreciated serving the village where he grew up.
“My separation from the village was amicable, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for the mayor, village board, management team and employees,” he said. “It was an honor and privilege to serve Bartlett and its taxpayers, and I am truly grateful for the opportunity.”
According to documents obtained by the Daily Herald, Skrycki was facing an employee complaint when he attended a June 11 meeting with Village Administrator Paula Schumacher. Police Chief Ryan Conway also attended to take notes.
During the meeting, Skrycki asked whether a voluntary separation agreement might be possible, according to meeting minutes. Schumacher replied that one could be considered without making any immediate promises.
After that meeting, Skrycki was placed on paid administrative leave. He signed the agreement on July 10. It made his resignation retroactive to June 12.
Village President Dan Gunsteen said trustees approved the agreement in August.
A statement from Schumacher about Skrycki’s departure was posted on the village’s website on Aug. 27.
“Scott Skrycki and the Village of Bartlett have mutually agreed to conclude his employment on amicable terms,” Schumacher wrote. “A long-time village employee, Mr. Skrycki has served as assistant village administrator for the past nine years. A voluntary separation agreement provides for certain compensation that he received upon his resignation.”
