Celebrate Mexican Independence Day with Dist. 33 Ballet Folklórico performance

In honor of Mexican Independence Day, West Chicago Elementary District 33’s Ballet Folklórico of West Chicago will present a performance of traditional dances from Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the St. Charles Public Library.

D33 Ballet Folklórico is a vibrant student dance group dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich traditions of Mexican folkloric dance.

For more than a decade, the group has shared the beauty of Mexico's diverse cultural heritage through colorful costumes, energetic choreography, and authentic regional dances.

Under the guidance dedicated educators and coaches, Ballet Folklórico provides students with opportunities to develop confidence, discipline, teamwork, and pride in their cultural roots through music, traditions, and stories of Mexico.

It will be 2 to 3 p.m. in the Huntley Community Room of the library, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

Mexican Independence Day is celebrated annually on Sept. 16, commemorating the historic moment in 1810 when Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla issued the famous “Grito de Dolores,” calling for Mexico's independence from Spanish rule.
