Buffalo Grove restaurant fire closes multiple units of strip mall

Multiple units of a Buffalo Grove strip mall remained closed Friday due to smoke and water damage caused by an overnight fire in a restaurant there.

The Buffalo Grove Fire Department responded to a 911 call at 1:45 a.m. for smoke and flames visible in the Samarkand Cafe in the 100 block of West Dundee Road.

No injuries were reported but firefighting efforts were hampered by the extreme humidity that required more time for rehabilitation and hydration for the crews, department officials said.

The fire was declared under control an hour after the call. The cause remains under investigation.
