Bears re-sign Sanborn, Lynch to 53-man roster

The Bears announced Tuesday they have re-signed linebacker Jack Sanborn and defensive lineman James Lynch to the active roster and have filled 14 of their 16 spots on the practice squad.

Sanborn and Lynch were released Sunday at the deadline to set the initial 53-man roster, which included injured safety Coby Bryant and undrafted rookie tight end Hayden Large. The Bears placed both players on injured reserve Tuesday, opening the spots for Sanborn and Lynch.

Eleven of the 14 practice squad signees spent training camp with the Bears and were waived or released at the deadline. They include wide receivers Scotty Miller, Kaden Davis and JP Richardson, running back Salvon Ahmed and defensive end Marcus Davenport.

Also re-signing with the Bears were tight end Stephen Carlson, offensive linemen Caden Barnett and Kyle Hergel, linebacker Wayne Matthews III, cornerback Deantre Price and safety Marlen Sewell.

The three new players on the practice squad are running back Zavier Scott, who spent the last two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings; offensive tackle Christian Jones, a fifth-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2024; and linebacker Buddy Johnson, a fourth-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021 who has spent time with seven teams, including the Bears during 2023 training camp.

The Philadelphia Eagles signed former Bears offensive tackle Kiran Amegadjie to their practice squad. The 2024 third-round pick from Hinsdale was waived Sunday after appearing in six games with one start over two injury-plagued seasons in Chicago.

The New Orleans Saints on Monday claimed undrafted rookie offensive tackle Mason Murphy off waivers from the Bears.
