Kane County offering free measles vaccines in wake of confirmed case

The Kane County Health Department is offering free measles, mumps and rubella vaccination through Friday to county residents who are not adequately protected against measles.

The move comes in response to a recent confirmed measles case and exposures last month at Kaneland High School in Maple Park and a South Elgin health clinic.

Residents may be eligible if they were born in or after 1957; have not received any MMR vaccine; received only one dose of MMR (two doses are recommended for full protection); don’t have any record of measles vaccination or immunity; or are otherwise inadequately protected.

Call (630) 208-3801 to schedule an appointment. The shots are being administered at the health department’s Aurora office, 1240 N. Highland Ave.

According to the health department, those potentially exposed at the high school or Next Generation Pediatric Clinic in South Elgin should not participate.
